MEPCO New Connection: Getting a New Meter

Before you apply

Decide your sanctioned load (how many kW you need — a typical home needs 1–5 kW) and connection type (domestic, commercial, industrial, tube-well). The load affects both your demand-notice cost and your monthly fixed charges later.

Application steps

1
Apply online through MEPCO's new-connection portal (linked from mepco.com.pk) or visit your nearest MEPCO office / customer service centre.
2
Documents typically required: CNIC copy, proof of ownership or tenancy (registry/rent agreement), and a neighbour's bill copy showing the nearest pole/transformer reference (helps the survey).
3
Site survey. MEPCO staff visit to confirm feasibility and the nearest connection point.
4
Demand notice. You receive a payable demand notice covering service-line and meter costs. Pay it at the designated bank within its validity.
5
Meter installation. After payment verification, MEPCO installs the meter and energises the connection. Keep the paid demand-notice receipt until the meter is installed.
Track it: the MEPCO SMART app (by PITC) includes "New Connection" and "Track New Connection" services.

Timelines and tips

  • Simple domestic connections are usually the fastest; commercial/industrial connections need more approvals.
  • Apply in the exact name on your CNIC and property documents — mismatches are the most common cause of delays.
  • Your first bill arrives after the first full meter-reading cycle; it may take 4–6 weeks to appear online.
